The official poster of the 7th edition of FIFCL

That innocent smile. That mischievous boyish look. That look towards the top of the bill, where he has since settled. Borrowed from ” C’est arrivé près de chez vous “, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, this photo of Benoît Poelvoorde symbolizes Belgian comedy: (too) modest but surprising, colorful and caustic. It was bound to herald the 7th edition of the FIFCL!

A cult, surrealist work, typical of this generally unexpected Belgian cinema, ” C’est arrivé près de chez vous “was released at the height of the 1992 Cannes Film Festival. Starring Benoît Poelvoorde, Rémy Belvaux, André Bonzel and Vincent Tavier, this mockumentary follows the daily life of Ben, a serial killer. Not content with filming his life/work, the TV crew that accompanies him also unwittingly reports on his philosophical ravings, his views on the world and his poetry (yes!).

It happened near you “provokes. Laughter or emotion, chills, sudden vocations for the poetry of cities. It won three awards at Cannes: the SACD prize, the international critics’ prize and the special youth prize. And launched Benoît Poelvoorde, who had hardly expected it, to heights from which he has never since descended.

The FIFCL is keen to make this anniversary a popular, festive and, of course, funny event. By inviting the production and directing team, by screening what remains a one-off UFO during this 7th edition, dedicating its poster and its audience to it. Celebrating, again and again, Belgian cinema and comedy, wherever it comes from.
