Open to French, Belgian and French-speaking European screenwriters, the CineComedies Lab writing residency aims to contribute to the emergence of new talent and the development of the art of comedy in cinema.
The selected scriptwriters will benefit from three work sessions, after which their projects will be presented to European producers at the next Liège International Comedy Film Festival (FIFCL) from November 5 to 9, 2025.
Since its creation, the residency has enabled the development of 34 projects. Several scripts have been optioned by producers and are benefiting from development agreements. In this context, producers acquiring a project selected at the CineComedies Lab can benefit from development support from Wallimpact to the tune of 50,000 euros, while RTBF is awarding a 17,500 euro writing grant to a Belgian scriptwriter.
Since its inception, each residency has been sponsored by a well-known comedy writer, including Victoria Bedos (nominated for the 2015 César for Best Original Screenplay for the film La Famille Bélier, directed by Éric Lartigau), Jean-François Halin ( OSS 117, Les Guignols de l’info), Agnès Jaoui (7 Césars, including 5 for screenplays, notably for Comme une image, Le Goût des autres, On connaît la chanson, Smoking / No Smoking and Un air de famille), Michel Leclerc ( Les Goûts et les Couleurs, La Lutte des classes), Benoît Mariage(Cowboy, Les convoyeurs attendent) and Lucien Jean-Baptiste (nominated for a César for Best First Film for La Première Étoile).
