Lucien Jean-Baptiste, sponsor of the CineComedies Lab 2023 writing residency

This writing residency, open to French, Belgian and French-speaking European scriptwriters, aims to contribute to the emergence of new talent and the development of the art of comedy in cinema.

The selected scriptwriters benefit from three work sessions, and their projects will be presented to European producers at the next Liège International Comedy Film Festival.

Lucien Jean-Baptiste will be sponsoring this year’s event, taking over from Jean-François Halin, Agnès Jaoui, Michel Leclerc and Benoît Mariage.

Actor, screenwriter and director, Lucien Jean-Baptiste has penned five feature films (“La Première Étoile”, “30° Couleur”, “DieuMerci!”, “Il a déjà tes yeux”, “La Deuxième Étoile”) and is currently working on his sixth. At the same time, he lends his silhouette to others with great elegance and self-mockery (“Tout simplement noir” by Jean-Pascal Zadi and John Wax, “La Traversée” by Varante Soudjian, “BDE” by Michaël Youn, etc.).

The writing workshop is run by scriptwriter Fadette Drouard (“Patients” by Fabien Marsaud, “Papicha” by Mounia Meddour, “La Fine Fleur” by Pierre Pinaud, “La Syndicaliste” by Jean-Paul Salomé, …) with the collaboration of Ali Bougheraba (Les SEGPA).

On this occasion, producers who acquire a project selected at the CineComedies Lab will benefit from Wallimpact development support to the tune of 50,000 euros. This support from Wallimage, a new partner of the CineComedies Lab, reinforces cross-border co-production and cooperation between CineComedies and the FIFCL.
