The Official Poster
of the 7th Edition of the FIFCL

That innocent smile. That mischievous kid look. This look turned to the top of the poster, where it has since settled. Borrowed from ”
It happened near you
“which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, this picture of Benoît Poelvoorde symbolizes the Belgian comedy: (too) modest but surprising, colorful and scathing. It was bound to announce the 7th edition of the FIFCL!

A cult work, surreal, typical of this generally unexpected Belgian cinema, ” It happened near you “was released in the middle of the 1992 Cannes Film Festival. Starring Benoît Poelvoorde, Rémy Belvaux, André Bonzel and Vincent Tavier, this fake documentary follows the daily life of Ben, a serial killer. Not content with filming his life/work, the television crew that accompanies him also reports, in spite of itself, his philosophical ravings, his views on the world and his poetry (yes!).

It happened near you
” provocative. Laughter or excitement, thrills, sudden vocations for the poetry of cities. It won three awards at Cannes: the SACD prize, the international critic’s prize and the special youth prize. And launched Benoît Poelvoorde, who hardly expected it, to the heights from which he has not descended since.

The FIFCL wants to make this anniversary a popular, festive and funny event, of course. By inviting the production and directing team, by screening what remains a UFO only once during this 7e edition, dedicating its poster and its public to him. Celebrating, again and again, Belgian cinema and comedy from wherever it comes from.
