MAT (stage name of Matteo Terzi) is a singer-songwriter of Italian origin born in a small college town near New York (New Brunswick), where his father taught at the university. At the age of four, he moved with his family to Milan, where he grew up.
Nevertheless, in the years that followed, he traveled extensively throughout the United States.
For Matteo, music has always been a passion, a matter of course, and something that makes him happy. Just as he finished his studies in political science at university in 2010, he decided, against the grain, to set off on a long hitchhiking trip across Europe, with guitar on his shoulder, to earn a living as a street musician. Falling in love with Belgium, he left Milan to settle with his wife and first child in the Walloon countryside.
His life changes when, during one of his performances in the streets of Liège, he is noticed by an editor of the famous TV show “The Voice”. The latter suggested that she take part in the blind auditions. Matteo seized his chance and, thanks to the support of his coach Typh Barrow, made it all the way to the final of the competition.
From then on, he pursued his career in the flat country and his first singles began to circulate on the airwaves. His collaboration with Typh continued even after the show, when she asked him to open for her at the Cirque Royal, the Forum de Liège and other venues.
The singer also asked him to write the Italian version of her hit “Aloha”, and they sang it together on the show “Alors on sort” broadcast on La Une on Christmas Day 2020.In 2021, Matteo released his first EP, “Shadows and lights”, featuring the singles “Between us” and “Incredible”, which he performed at festivals and sold-out concert halls.The following year, it was the turn of “My will”, a folk-pop ballad written in the musical footsteps of Dermot Kennedy, Dean Lewis and James Bay.2022 A new page opens in Matteo’s story. After years of musical research, Matteo takes an artistic turn, drawing inspiration from the artists he loves and grew up with: Ed Sheeran, Damien Rice, Oasis, Imagine Dragons, etc. With this new maturity in sound comes the need for Matteo to change his name, opting for MAT, a new story rooted in the path that brought him here.
